I’m skeptical about how many people will actually use it via Facebook due to security reasons. But ICICI assures of high security measures in place, for complete integrity – like Secure Hosting and SSL Connection, Activity Privacy, 2 Factor Authentication and Login Details Security.

Things you can do with the ICICI Bank Facebook app:
1. Check your account details
2. Upgrade debit card
3. Get account statements
4. Request/stop cheque books

Register here to activate the ICICI Bank Facebook app.

It is good to see that banks in India are adopting technology in every aspect.

But a recent code update on Facebook lead to an injection of an unknown bug that revealed many of Mark’s personal pictures from his album.

Pictures which Mark would preferably keep to himself, became public and were shared across the Internet. Facebook, like before, has always faced privacy concerns and legal issues from the very beginning.

On noticing the recent bug, Facebook team immediately rolled back the code changes to avoid further harm. However, Mark Zuckerberg’s personal pictures were already out by then.

Following are few personal pictures of Mark Zuckerberg enjoying hunting, cooking, partying with friends or family.

Store your documents with eSafe - that’s what ICICIDirect says for their new online digital service. Yes, ICICIDirect will now offer you to store and retrieve all your important documents online, with utmost safety and security. Moreover, it is absolutely free for all ICICIDirect customers.

The key reason behind the launch of this service is the rate at which people are adapting online digital document storage. Many companies too – both private and government – are converting their paper work into digital form – thus forming digital archives.

The email from ICICIDirect goes as follows:

“Dear Abdulqader Yunusbhai Kapadia,

We live in a world of NOW. Life can no longer wait for us to search through the papers to find the one required.

Anywhere, anytime access – Your eSafe is available to you from anywhere, via an Internet connection under your ICICIdirect.com account login.

No storage or retrieval hassles – Since your documents are stored in a digital format under your ICICIdirect.com account, the account is available to you wherever you go.

Durability and Longevity – Storage of documents in CDs or other portable media is prone to handling them with care, your eSafe lets you store your documents -> online, which ensures durability and longevity.

Regards,
ICICIdirect.com”

Online document storage is definitely the future of document management and India too is shifting towards it rapidly. With such services and security assurance from reputed Indian names and branches – like ICICI – I’m sure many more companies will venture into this vertical, pretty soon.

Sharing information and files with friends, colleagues, and relatives over the Internet has become an important part of our daily digital life. We transfer hundreds of pictures, movies, videos and documents, every single day.

The problem arises when you want to transfer big files over the Internet. Most online services like emailing & photo/video sharing have limits on attachments or uploads – like 25MB, 50MB, etc. What if you want to share movies or presentations which are few hundred MBs big? FTP sites are old and hosting your own server would be ridiculous!

Following are few tools and online services that offer users to transfer big files over the Internet without much pain. They theoretically implement no limit over file sizes and prove to be a much quicker way to transfer big files.

DROPBOX

Dropbox is my personal favorite when it comes to transferring big files over the Internet. It’s easy, quick and extremely well designed. The process is simple – download Dropbox, install it, put some files into it and they get automatically synchronized with all your other devices around the globe (though they should have Dropbox installed).

It is basically cloud storage, i.e. all your uploaded files are stored in the cloud thus allowing you to access them anywhere & everywhere. Initial 2GB storage is absolutely free and subscriptions up to 100GB are available. It works across platforms - Windows, Mac, Linux, iPad, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. They use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and AES-256 bit encryption to keep your files safe & secure.

SENDTHISFILE

SendThisFile is another online service that helps you transfer big files over the Internet. They say “Easily upload and transfer multiple files of any size” with assured safety and security. They offer 15-day trial without any limitations on the account. They offer Free account with 2GB space and few other restrictions. Other plans include Starter, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Business – offering no limits on file sizes. They too use 128-bit SSL & AES encryption to keep your files safe & secure.

SEND6

No need to create an account or log in – Send6 lets you directly upload and transfer files over the Internet. Unfortunately, they impose a limit of 50MB per file for not-registered users. Other plans include Lite, Personal, Professional, Business, and Corporate.

The uploaded files will expire in 7 or 14 days depending on the plan you choose. You can also manage your uploaded files and delete them anytime.

TRANSFERBIGFILES

Like the name speaks, TransferBigFiles allow users to transfer big files over the Internet via email. Without creating any account or logging in, any user can send files up to 100MB. Optional settings are for registered users only. You will also be notified if the recipient user downloads the file you sent. Password protecting your file can prove to be a good security factor.

Subscription plans include Escape Pod, Star Fighter, and Mother Ship. File size from 2GB to 20GB per file is allowed – depending on the plan you select. For the free plan, files will only be available for 5 days.

DROPSEND

DropSend is again another file transfer service via email. Free account will let you transfer file up to 2GB and only 5 transfers per month. The process is simple – attach file, enter To email, and enter From email – hit Send File. Other plans include Lite, Basic, Standard, Pro, and Business.

MAILBIGFILE

Another file transfer service via email – MailBigFile allows 300MB per file to be sent for free. It doesn’t offer many options like password protection, expiring time, etc. Files are kept alive only for 10 days in the free version. Other plans include Pro and Business. The maximum allowed size per file is 2GB.

YOUSENDIT

YouSendIt again is a file transfer service via emails. Maximum allowed size per file is 50MB for free version and 2GB for a paid subscription plan. Paid versions offer additional options like expiration dates, security options, download tracking, return notification, and phone support.

DROPLR

Droplr is only for Mac users. Their site says “Droplr is the best way to share files from your Mac on the internet. Period.” It’s absolutely free with some ad supported content. They give 1GB storage to every account. It’s a neat and clean option for Mac users to transfer and share files over the Internet. Twitter integration will definitely help share socially.

WUALA

Waula is another cloud storage service. They specifically highlight Secure Online Storage with high encryption methods. The free version allows storage up to 2GB and paid up to 100GB for 5 users. They can be synced across devices and platforms.

Conclusion

With so many options available to transfer files over the Internet, it’s best recommended to evaluate each option and select any to suit your needs. I personally am a big fan of Dropbox and I use it regularly to store & transfer many of my important documents and media.

What about you? What service/tool do you use to transfer big files over the Internet?
